Is this course for me?

This course is for people who want to pursue a career in Health and Social Care. From this course, learners are able to apply for places in higher education including Nursing, Midwifery, Speech Therapy, Social Work, Podiatry, Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Operating Department Practitioner (OPD), Psychology and Paramedic.

What will I study?

This course gives the learner a chance to explore various disciplines such as Health, Psychology, Biology, Sociology, Research and others all of which feature heavily in health and social care training and education programmes.

How long is the course?

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday each week for one year.

How will I be assessed?

Through various forms of course work which is continually assessed, including written assignments, presentations and debates.

What qualifications do I need?

You will need GCSE English and Maths Grade A* - C / 9-4. Equivalent qualifications may be considered and on an individual basis.



Applicants must check individual university requirements to ensure qualifications are accepted for progression.

What can I progress onto?

Almost all students go onto University to train in professional health and care careers. Some progress onto the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.

This course has close links with local universities which gives the learner the opportunity to participate in enrichment programmes. This course requires a high level of commitment from you. Please note that the award of the Diploma does not provide guaranteed entry to UK Higher Education.
