Is this course for me?

This course is designed to give you hands on experience in the kitchen preparing you for the diverse demands of the hospitality industry. If you want to progress into employment in roles of general cook, catering assistant, or work as part of a team within the catering industry then this course is for you.

What will I study?

Students are required to study mandatory units which cover aspects of maintaining safe, hygienic and secure working environment, working as part of a catering team and maintaining food safety.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year

How will I be assessed?

Continual assessment through practical observation, oral questioning and written end tests.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-3 subjects or equivalent. Adults will be considered without these qualifications depending on previous experience.

What can I progress onto?

Employment within the industry. Progression to Advanced Apprenticeship or a Level 3 Catering qualification.

Other Information

You will be expected to purchase a Chefs uniform and kit. Adults can often access bursary which covers this cost. High attendance on the course is a requirement for success. If you are 16-18 years old, you may be eligible for our FREE bus pass.

16-18 year olds do not pay exam fees.

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
