Is this course for me?

The BA (Hons) course provides an extension opportunity for those who are working in an education setting and already delivering learning. The aim of the programme is to enhance your professional understanding through academic study. Students will undertake a research project and learn about the changes and development of education.

ALIGNED WITH INDUSTRY

Tutors have a wide range of professional experience in youth mental health services, nursery management, teaching and training.

The University Centre partners with social services and schools.

INDUSTRY RELEVANT

You will develop transferable skills for many different settings, working with children and young people in family centres to children's care, training and teaching sectors.

EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Established links with teaching programmes, such as Kingsbridge and Skills Direct, benefit those interested in teaching. Most students who join us without a job secure employment following their placement.

Students have recently taken trips at home and abroad to examine children's services in Prague and Budapest.

What will I study?

Modules include:

• Policy and Practice in Educational Settings

How long is the course?

1 day per week for 1 academic year plus 1-2 days work placement per week.

How will I be assessed?

Assessments include; interpreting observations, case studies, reports, presentations, essays, research projects and the production of professional development portfolios.

What qualifications do I need?

This programme does not recruit to the first year of the course. It is designed for applicants who meet one of the following criteria:

1.Applicants who hold a Cert Ed (post-compulsory) will be admitted to the programme with advanced standing. The Cert Ed qualification combined with the 150 hours teaching requirement accompanying this programme permits applicants admission with credit up to 180 credits (120 at Year 1/ Level 4 and 60 at Year 2/ Level 5).

2. Applicants who hold the UCLan Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and their Services will be admitted with advanced standing up to 240 credits.

3. Applicants who hold relevant Foundation degrees awarded by other higher education institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Students must also possess a Grade 4 or above in English at GCSE or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

MEd (Masters in Education) at UCLan, Masters in Social Work or the PGCE at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.

Alumni have progressed to positions working with children and young people in the public and private sectors, social services, schools, teaching in the education and training sector, family centres and children's homes.

Other Information

As a student on a course awarded by UCLan you have access to their facilities including libraries, social facilities and the Students' Union.

You will be taught by a professional team of tutors with a range of specialist expertise in youth mental health services, nursery management, teaching and training.

Course Fees

£7500.00

16-18 year olds do not pay exam fees.

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.

All other courses show the total fees payable for the course.
