Is this course for me?

If you want a rewarding career working in a childcare setting we have a number of routes for you to follow, including further study at university level. You will need to have a clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) to work in the childcare sector. Work placements will supplement your studies, and our industry professional tutors will help you to maximise your full potential. This course gives you an introduction to working in early years. It will give you the opportunity to develop your skills in communication, problem solving, team working and time management. You will also undertake work experience.

What will I study?

The programme of study covers a range of topics including Vocational and Personal & Social Development. Communication, physical and emotional needs, encouraging children to eat healthily, creative and physical activities for children, working towards goals and working as part of a team. You will also study Maths and English at an appropriate level. The programme of study entails a large element of work experience.

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year

How will I be assessed?

Through course work, class activities and assignments.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-2 or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Successful completion of this course, plus a successful interview, could lead you onto a Level 2 programme.

Other Information

You will receive support from a competent, approachable team of staff, who have experience in the early years and child care sector. You will learn about values, interpersonal skills and the care needs required for working in the sector. You will require a satisfactory DBS clearance.
