Is this course for me?

A one year top-up to an honours degree for those who have a Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree in a Computing related discipline to develop practical skills and apply research and critical thinking to solve problems using appropriate technologies. Undergraduates develop relevant academic skills as have exposure to develop solutions with relevant industrial tools.

The programme is delivered by education professionals with extensive computing knowledge as well as industrial and commercial experience. The programme is based in the Centre for Advanced Technical Studies with access to hardware for internet of things and connected devices. Classrooms and computing laboratories are furnished with up-to-date software and networking equipment, to provide the latest technology and university standard resources.

Students also undertake visits to employers and conferences, e.g. Euro Gamer Expo, and participate in a series of guest speaker lecturers from local and national employers as well as international companies, for example, we have had talks from Sony Playstation, IBM and Microsoft, all designed to enhance skills, knowledge and employment opportunities.

How long is the course?

2 days per week for 1 academic year

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods may take the form of assessment of individual performance during practical work, essays, reports, presentations, analytical or design assignments, research assignments, blogs/vlogs and personal development plans. The use of multi-modal assessment allows for the use of a wider range of assessment methods - incorporating the use of screencasts, livestreams and digital portfolios of evidence.

What qualifications do I need?

An HND or Foundation Degree in a relevant subject. Students must also possess a Grade 4 or above in English and maths at GCSE or equivalent.

What can I progress onto?

Some have secured company director positions in a range of industry sectors, specialising in software and application development. Others have established their own successful businesses. Post graduate study - May lead to post graduate study in Computer Science, Information Security, Graphics and Games Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Forensics.

Course Fees

£7500.00

16-18 year olds do not pay exam fees.

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
