Is this course for me?

Lead Adult Care Workers have responsibility for providing supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others, or working autonomously, exercising judgement and accountability. As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference to someones life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. By providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery you will be instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support. Typical job titles include Care Officer, Care Supervisor, Senior Care Worker, Supervising Care Worker, Senior Support Worker, Relief Team Leader, Social Work Assistant, Social Services Officer, Outreach Development Worker, Community Support Worker, Community Outreach Worker, Community Development Worker, Family Support Worker or Personal Assistant. These could all specialise in a variety of areas such as learning disability, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, homecare, dementia and end-of-life care. What will I study?

In this apprenticeship you will be learning the knowledge, skills and behaviours to be successful in your chosen role, these include: Knowledge & Skills: Lead and support others, monitor, plan and review care plans, having the right values and behaviours, importance of communication, support individuals to remain safe from harm, how to promote health and wellbeing, how to work professionally, own professional development. Treat people with respect and dignity and honour their human rights and communicate clearly and responsibly. Behaviours: Summed up by the 'Six Cs': Care, Compassion, Courage, Communication, Competence and Commitment.

How will I be assessed?

All apprentices now complete an end-point assessment to complete their qualification. This is delivered by an independent end-point assessment organisation with no affiliation to the employer or training provider. This is a national requirement and endpoint assessments are carried out by a third party assessor. End point assessments use a variety of assessment methods depending on the apprenticeship standard these can include:Professional Discussions. Interviews. Showcase portfolios. What qualifications do I need?

Employers are looking for apprentices who have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4. Level 2 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs, graded 9-3 or equivalent, including Maths or English. Level 3 - 6 - A minimum of 5 GCSEs, graded 9-4 or equivalent, including Maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

This apprenticeship provides an ideal entry into the occupation and supports progression within the sector up to level 5.
