What will I study?

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour. You will gain an understanding of how psychologists conduct their research, before examining a wide range of areas within psychology.

You will seek to answer questions such as, why do people obey authority? How do children learn aggressive behaviours? How reliable are eyewitnesses memories? In the second year we take a deep dive into mental health, studying the causes of mental health disorders and various ways in which they can be treated.

Forensic psychology, examines the causes of criminal behaviour, how can we reduce this, and what effect prison has on people. Other topics include Sports Psychology and how we perform in front of an audience. How do we work effectively as part of a team, and how can we manage anxiety?

How long is the course?

Full-time for two academic years.

How will I be assessed?

Through a combination of written exams.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-5 including English and Maths and 2 GCSE subjects graded 9-6 including Maths or Science.

What can I progress onto?

You may progress to study at a Russell group university for a degree in a related subject.

Other Information

You will benefit from a range of trips, and guest speakers including a moot courtroom, participating in a mock trial, guest talks from academics within the field, and those who work with domestic abuse survivors.
