Is this course for me?

This exciting course will allow you to develop a range of theory and production skills for the UK's dynamically changing media industry. From understanding the ways audiences view a product, to the writing and creation of live radio, short films, music videos and adverts. This course offers you the chance to develop your creative, analytical and production skills within the creative media sector.

What will I study?

The Level 3 is designed to provide you with the most up to date knowledge and the very best skills to enable you to establish yourself on your chosen career path in the creative industries. Media Practice isn't just about cameras, we develop your comprehension, understanding and skillsets in project management, communication, writing, audio and post production too. You will take part in a range of different projects and will produce everything from short fiction films to documentaries to radio drama, motion graphics work and podcasts. We teach you the fundamental principles and key theories of media and develop your critical thinking too. We apply everything we do it session to practically based projects and offer a programme of rolling developmental tutorials and workshops, so you are always moving forward. This course will be right for you, if you are passionate, focused and keen to explore the world out of your comfort zone.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

Coursework is project-based and is assessed throughout the course by your tutors. A range of assessment methods are used including external 'live' projects. You are required to evaluate your own coursework progress and in tutorials. You will not be required to sit an examination.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including English Language.

What can I progress onto?

You can progress to higher education at the college or a higher apprenticeship. Previous students have gone to work for Sky, JD Sports Online Marketing, World of Wonder, Trinity Mirror Group, and the BBC.

Other Information

Facilities include Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Audition, After Effects and Premiere Pro), a television studio, a broadcast radio studio and location audio and video recording kits.
