Is this course for me?

Performing in front of a live audience requires skill, confidence, self-motivation and stamina. Our performing arts, acting and dance courses will equip you with the skills to develop as a performer. You will become prepared for a variety of progression opportunities, including university degrees, specialist dance and drama school training and stage careers in a range of settings, including touring theatre companies. There are many behind the scenes roles that you will explore and experience to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to work in this diverse industry. We have strong links with industry professionals who present masterclass workshops to provide a valuable insight into the entertainment industry.

What will I study?

This is an exciting, practical based course where you will learn performance skills and styles. You will learn in our specialist facilities including 2 specialist dance studios. You will produce small and large scale projects taking on the role of dancer, choreographer, physical theatre performer or a member of the technical production team. You will watch professional shows, take part in workshops, write scripts, design costumes, build sets, music and lights and much more.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

You will be set exciting tasks for work related projects that will be assessed by tutors and external examiners. The majority will be practical, others will involve project journals and performance reviews.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 including maths or English. You will need to successfully pass an audition.

What can I progress onto?

Most of our students progress onto degrees at university or at specialist dance schools. Alternatively you could choose to study a variety of performance courses at university. Most actors and dancers are self-employed and paid a fee for each contract or performance. Rates of pay will depend on who you are working for and the setting you are working in. With experience a stage manager can earn from £25 - £35k a year. Other careers include Dance Teacher, Singer, Entertainer , Creative Director, Producer, Drama Therapist , Company Principal, Choreographer, TV Presenter and Dance Movement Psychotherapist

You will gain experience for employment in the entertainment industry. You will build self confidence, group working and organisational skills that are transferable to any business sector. 16-18 year olds do not pay exam fees.

Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
