Is this course for me?

The Photography programme is taught by expert tutors with a wealth of industry experience at the College's Centre of Excellence in Creative Arts at the School for the Arts. 90% of our Level 3 students continue their studies at some of the country's top universities. You will have access to our dedicated studios and classrooms. The course will prepare you with a wide range of industry-related skills and knowledge and you will have the opportunity to complete live briefs with high-status employers and organisations. Through the programme, you will develop the skills and confidence needed to secure a place in Higher Education and succeed in the creative sector. You will showcase your work in external exhibitions and visit photographic industry events and galleries.

What will I study?

This course will introduce you to the techniques of both traditional and digital photography. You will be working in our professionally equipped studio, on location, in the darkroom and in our state of the art digital workshops. The course offers you the opportunity to explore photography for fashion, advertising and marketing, editorial, photo journalism, portraiture as well as fine art photography. The course also includes visual studies and contextual studies. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to explore your own avenues of interest and develop a portfolio of work, which will help you pursue your chosen career pathway.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

Work is project based and is assessed throughout the course by your tutors. A range of assessment methods are used including external 'live' projects. You are required to evaluate your own coursework progress and in tutorials. You will not be required to sit an examination.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including maths or English and an art related subject.

What can I progress onto?

On completion of the Level 3 Photography programme you may secure a place at university level course or gain employment within the industry. Our alumni have gone on to achieve first class honours degrees and also establish their own businesses in commercial, nature and wedding photography. Experienced Photographers can expect to earn up to £50,000 a year.

Other Information

You will be taught by qualified tutors who are also practising artists and designers. Opportunities for work experience, work related learning and guest speakers are included in the programme. Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
