Is this course for me?

If you are looking for a challenging career with lots of responsibility and high rewards then a public services course could be for you. You will gain the skills, knowledge and confidence for a career in the Fire Service, Royal Navy, Armed Forces, Customs and Excise or Police. Our courses have been designed with input from experts at the Police, RAF, Fire Services and the Army. You will experience life in the public services through a range of relevant activities, trips, visits and guest speakers. You will work with lots of professionals from the services, who help you build the skills to work in this diverse industry. New for 2020 is the opportunity to join the the Policing pathway which will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to enter the Police Force or higher studies

What will I study?

The course includes: government and policies, leadership and teamwork, health and fitness, outdoor activities, career and employment, and volunteering. You will also take part in a range of voluntary and work related activities to enhance employability skills. You will also complete the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.

How long is the course?

Full time for two academic years

How will I be assessed?

Learners will undertake internally and externally assessed units. Assessment will also include practical activities based on Expedition & fitness units

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent including maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

On successful completion at Level 3, you may go on to university level and choose from a wide range of degrees including: Criminology, Police Science and Public Services Management. The average pay for a Police Officer is around £33,000 a year. Qualified Fire Fighters earn over £29,000 a year. Royal Navy Officers may earn between £25,000- £84,000 a year. Other careers include Armed Forces, Prison Officer, Rescue Services, Local Government Official, HM Revenue and Customs Officer and Security Services.
