Is this course for me?

This course is for you if you are looking for an exciting and rewarding career nurturing and guiding children and young people through their learning and development. It is relevant for those who have completed the Level 2 qualification and want to progress in their career as a Teaching Assistant. The course is suitable for those aged 19 and above.

What will I study?

The course will be delivered via classroom based activities and practical assessment within the school environment. You will study topics such as Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults; Understanding Child and Young Person Development; Schools as Organisations; Supporting Learning Activities; Promoting Children and Young People s Positive Behaviour; Developing Positive Relationships; Promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in work with Children and Young People; Supporting Assessment for Learning; Supporting Health and Safety and Understanding Safeguarding.

How long is the course?

The course runs for 21 weeks. The learner will attend College for 4.5 hours per week and must have employment, or a voluntary placement in a school for at least 10 hours per week plus one hour online support.

How will I be assessed?

All units are internally assessed in College and the work placement via written assignments, professional discussions, witness statements and personal reflection.

What qualifications do I need?

Teaching Assistants Cache Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning Level 2 You will need to have secured a work placement of at least 10 hours per week.

What can I progress onto?

The Certificate will assist in career progression as a Teaching Assistant or securing employment. Further study includes Level 4 Advanced Diploma or Foundation Degree Children Young People and their Services .

Other Information

You will receive support from a competent, approachable team of staff, who all have experience of working in a classroom environment. You will require a clear DBS disclosure.
