Is this course for me?

A career in travel and tourism can be extremely exciting and take you to all four corners of the globe. If you enjoy working with people, have good organisational skills and you are enthusiastic about travel, then one of our courses could be just what you are looking for. International travel and tourism is worth approximately £18 billion to the UK each year. It is big business. There are a wide range of career options to explore. Our courses will provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to pursue a career in this diverse sector. This is a theory based course for learners who enjoy travelling, working with people and are able to demonstrate good customer service skills plus are interested in a career in travel and tourism. The course will encourage you to develop the practical skills and essential know how required in todays rapidly expanding travel and tourism industry. This course also includes an introduction to the Aviation Industry qualification.

What will I study?

Travel and Tourism students will study: customer service and interpersonal skills in travel and tourism, worldwide travel destinations and transportation for travel and tourism. Further units of study could include visitor attractions, holiday representatives, promotional activities and travel planning

How long is the course?

Full time for one academic year

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will take place in the form of assignments and projects based on realistic work placement activities, demands and situations. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction.

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-3 or equivalent including maths or English.

What can I progress onto?

Level 2 Cabin Crew, Level 2 Aviation, Level 3 Diploma in Travel & Tourism or seek employment in the Travel and Tourism Industry. On successful completion at Level 3, you may secure employment or go on to university level study and choose from a wide range of degrees including: Event Management, Tourism Management and Leisure & Tourism. Highly experienced Cabin Crew can earn up to £30k a year on average. You could earn more with overtime and flight allowances. Some airlines offer free or discounted flights to cabin crew staff and their families. Salaries in Event Management can range from £20- £40k a year. Other career opportunities include Travel Agent, Conference Manager, Holiday Representative, Holiday Transport Operator, Tour Manager, Tourist Information Officer, Airport Ground Staff and Travel Agency Manager.

Other Information

You will also be expected to attend a residential study visit plus educational visits to local attractions. We have a smart code of dress and you will be expected to purchase a College designed Scarf. Tie for males. If you are 16-18 years old, you may be eligible for our FREE bus pass. Course fees shown are per annum for University Centre courses. Courses lasting longer than one year, fees will be payable per year.
