Three talented University Centre Wigan & Leigh College students have been awarded coveted civil engineering scholarships by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE North West).

Alexandra Pruden (19), Lisa Coffey (22) and William Sculthorpe (19) have each received the ICE QUEST Technician Scholarship, a sign of excellence which recognises the abilities and potential of early-career civil engineers.

The trio are currently working towards HND qualifications in Construction & The Built Environment and are all employed as apprenticeships by engineering firm Sellafield Ltd as part of their studies.

They have been selected for the accolades due to their outstanding potential. A Quest Technician Scholarship enhances a budding civil engineers’ CV and also comes with financial support of £1,000. The scholarships are awarded to ambitious engineering students who demonstrate that they are a good leader, a good team player, able to act independently and show determination.

Scholarship recipient, Lisa Coffey said: “I am so pleased to be able to add the Quest Technician Scholarship to my CV as it demonstrates my drive to develop and be successful in my field.

"I am excited about the potential opportunities this will open up for me in my future career as I work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

The financial support will also help me to fund other training opportunities and potentially a research trip to Chernobyl to build up my knowledge of the nuclear industry.”

All recipients are student members of ICE North West. Membership is free to students and provides support for future civil engineers including careers advice, networking opportunities, online learning and more.
