Satisfaction with high quality local degree provision at Wigan & Leigh College University Centre has soared with the recent National Student Survey (NSS) results highlighting overall satisfaction at 82.61%.

This is in stark contrast to falling satisfaction rates in Higher Education nationally, where the average has fallen to 75% of Higher Education students being satisfied with the quality of their course.

Results are notably above national benchmark in every category of the NSS; teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and student voice.

HE students transitioned to online learning from December 2020 - April 2021, using a range of Information Learning Technology platforms to support teaching, learning and assessment.

The College invested significantly in IT and software resources to support students undertaking their studies during the pandemic and students returned to College earlier for courses that have a practical focus.

Incredible feedback was received in the area of teaching and learning. Most notably, 93% of students have stated that staff are good at explaining and 89% of students agreed that the course has provided them with opportunities to bring information and ideas together from different topics.

College Vice Principal, Claire Foreman said: “These achievements are not only down to the incredible commitment of our lecturing staff but also a result of our collaborative relationships with our employer networks and our local communities.”

Alex Rawlinson was a degree apprentice at Sellafield Ltd.

An impressive 68% of students on the BEng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic course achieved a first class honours degree.

The College also delivered the degree to 13 Sellafield Ltd degree apprentices with all of them achieving a First Class degree result.

John Patterson, Head of Project Engineering Management & Engineering Design Degree Apprentice Scheme said: “I am delighted to see the extraordinary academic results achieved by our Design Apprentices – they have met and exceeded expectations across the board. “They have done so while facing demanding and difficult challenges over the past 16 months for which there was no precedent; it speaks to the resilience and commitment of our apprentices that they were so adaptive and effective in the face of the challenges presented."

"The way in which our apprentices have performed leaves us in no doubt that the Sellafield mission is in good hands and that they will continue to thrive throughout their careers with us. Well done to all our apprentices and thank you to everyone who supports them.
