Former College student, Robert Forshaw, is making all the rightnoises as he scoops a prestigious international award for his radio drama in New York.The 24-year-old from Wigan scooped the title of New York Festivals World’s Best Radio Programme award for his drama A Favela at a ceremony at the Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue.

The moving 20 minute drama set in Brazil earned the former College student the bronze award for Best UK Student Drama in the awards.The awards have been honouring dramas from across the globe since the 1980s.

The former Level 3 Diploma in Media student began his journey in radio at the College before progressing onto the University of Salford where the aspiring broadcaster achieved a first class honours degree. Robert is now on course to secure his Master’s Degree in Marketing at the university.

Award winning producer, Robert, says, “My love for composing radio dramas developed whilst studying at Wigan & Leigh College. I thoroughly enjoyed the script writing and production process which led me to enrolling onto a radio production programme at university. I returned to the College recently to inspire current students who studied on the same course. My time at the College has certainly helped me pave my way to success.” Andrea Neild, Head of Media at the College added, “The College is very proud of Robert’s success and wish him the very best in his current studies and future career.”
