Wigan & Leigh College University Centre has seen an impressive return of top grades for its final year students.
So far to date, of the students that have had their results confirmed, the higher education provider has seen over 73% of students achieving either a first class or upper second class grade in their Top-up degrees.
These impressive results are also reflected in the efforts of the full time cohort of teacher trainees of which 78% were awarded with a grade 1 Outstanding in particular.
Aaron Edwards celebrated achieving a first class honours in his BA (Hons) Creative Practitioner (Graphics pathway) awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).
The Ashton-in-Makerfield freelance designer said: “I loved completing the Top-up course which has set me up really well for a future in the design industry. Now I have a solid idea of where I want to take my career.”
David Latimer completed his BEng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering, awarded by UCLan and accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), with a first class honours and is now planning his next steps to becoming a chartered engineer and become a consultant engineer.
“Passing the course has already opened doors to professional engineering status and has allowed me to apply for senior roles within the company I work for (digital business company, Equinix),” he added.
Higher Apprentices were also highlighted recently having sailed through their end point assessments for the Nuclear Standard having completed their HND’s.
The University Centre offers students the chance to study higher education qualifications on their doorstep. Higher level and degree courses are £7,500 or less, making learning locally not just a convenient option.
The provider offers a range of qualifications for full and part-time students. Course areas include business management, creative industries, education, STEM subjects, health and social care and Teacher Education.

“We are particularly proud of the high volume of high grades which we feel is testament to the expert tutoring received as well as each student’s resilience to complete their final year under such challenging times.”
