Wigan & Leigh College would like to congratulate all its students who received awards at the Annual Awards Evening 2017
The ceremony, saw exceptional students recognised for their outstanding achievement over the last 12 months. Talented Music Production students Chelsea Hern and Zara Jones welcomed award winners and their guests with a beautiful duet before the prestigious ceremony began. A total of 60 awards were given as each faculty named their ‘Student of the Year’ and their trophies were handed out by Chair of the Governing Board, Frank Costello.
Mayor of the Wigan Borough, Councillor Bill Clarke also lent his support to the evening and awarded the Gaskell Scholarship winners that acknowledged efforts in Art & Design and Engineering, with each student receiving a £500 cheque.
Kieron received an award and is also predicted Distinction* Distinction* Distinction*. He has been successful in securing a higher level apprenticeship in control engineering and will study his higher qualifications at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College.
Rebecca Thomas, former pupil of the Deanery High School, is coming to the end of her Early Years & Childcare course having received all A* throughout her course. Rebecca isn’t saying goodbye to the College just yet as she is continuing her studies at the University Centre Wigan & Leigh College where she will complete her Foundation Degree in Young People and their Services awarded by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). She said, “I’ve had so much support and I’m proud to be a part of Wigan & Leigh College – I couldn’t have done it without my tutors.”
Principal Anna Dawe said, “The Awards Evening is one of the highlights of the College year and it is a proud moment to see students being rewarded for their hard work. The outstanding grades are a testament to the students’ own ambition and dedication, but also to the support of their family and the exceptional tutors we have here at Wigan & Leigh.”
